Leaders Making A Difference
We have assembled a dynamic and diverse Leadership Team to continue the hard work Mr. Pete Brown started over forty years ago serving the under-resourced children of South Central Los Angeles through the sport of tennis.
PETE BROWN
FOUNDER
(deceased 2009)
For over 40 years the late Ulysses "Pete" Brown displayed a loyal and loving commitment to the children of South Central LA. His dedication to enrich children's lives continues today through the PBJTP as we understand the importance of helping children blossom to their full potential. Our coaches, board of directors and supporters continue what Coach Brown started each and every day.
GEORGE "MARTY" WOODS
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & CEO
Marty Woods is a product of the South Central Los Angeles community he now lovingly serves. At age six and growing up in a single parent household, Marty met Coach Brown who introduced him to the game of tennis by giving him a free tennis racket. Over the years, Coach Brown became a father-figure and mentor to Marty who would go on to become a top junior tennis player and earn a college scholarship to play tennis for Jackson State University. In 2009 when Coach Brown got sick and ultimately passed away, Marty took over as the CEO and Executive Director of the PBJTP and has been "paying it forward" ever since keeping the mission and legacy of Coach Brown alive and well. Marty has been instrumental in promoting and developing tennis along with academics within the community while making a long-lasting impact on the children of South Central with the game of tennis he loves so dearly.
